Stephanie Walter was diagnosed with amelanotic conjunctiva melanoma in September 2016. She had undergone thirteen surgeries to remove the cancer as it progressed through her eye, eyelid, orbit, parotid gland, etc. In July 2021 the cancer had spread throughout her body and in the end, took her life.
Stephanie had worked as an emergency medical technician (EMT) for years. After receiving an injury while helping a patient, she transferred and became an EMT dispatcher. While Stephanie was working to help others and her community, she was fighting ocular melanoma. She had numerous surgeries to stop the cancer's progression with the hope of saving her life. Stephanie was always a fighter and would go back to work as soon as she could to help out others. Nothing brought her more joy than her family, friends, and her career.
The Stephanie Walter Ocular Melanoma Foundation was created to honor the legacy of Stephanie and to help those like her that fight this terrible disease. We wish to serve our community, like Stephanie, and to bring awareness of ocular melanoma to the world. Stephanie would often comment that she is so lucky to have access to such great doctors and facilities. The Stephanie Walter Ocular Melanoma Foundation wishes to do the same by helping people that are going through ocular melanoma treatments any assistance for their travel arrangements so that they can focus on their recovery.
